from Songs of Eurydice by Keith Jafrate

Taken from Songs Of Eurydice published by Stride

should I resist these lines
dragged from me at midnight
by a nothingness?

I tested my prayer at many altars
only you answer
I swam beyond the wall of our bodies
and back to my dream of you
should I resist these lines?
should I turn to sleep
as to a housewife?
should I lick the blood of verbs
as it pours from my hand
my hand which has held you
which writes these lines?

the sea falls white
on the black shore
tonight your image
possesses me like rage
should I resist these lines
dragged from me at midnight?
