GUEST POETS
Kev the Poet (VR Bristol)
A multi-media writer and performer – primarily writing philosophical essays, singing spiritual music, rapping to Hip-Hop
and performing poetry – an initiated Bard of a Druid Order, dub poet and conscious Hip-Hop MC. His blurb sums him up
as good as any could, when we first saw Kev appear in our ears, we were entirely encapsulated by his flows,
perspectives, attention to detail, and how he commands the room he's within. It is clear as cling film that Kev truly
believes all of the things he says, and he'll have you pondering issues and thinking deeper than you'd anticipated,
come and be inspired by the one and only, Kev the Poet.
Spliff Richard (VR Brighton)
Rapid rhyming rambling red-eyed rhetoric, 4 time winner of Brighton's annual Hammer & Tongue slam, and a regular
in Brightons legendary Poets Vs MC's events. Spliff caused controvesy recently as he was not asked to perform on the
side of poets, and so switched his allegance to the MC's team, which went down like wood in water for the poets, as for
us, we see it as true embracement of lyricism, and his pseudonym is as good as any we've come across!
Chris Coppen (VR Bournemouth)
To those of us native to Bournemouth, this is a man who needs no introduction. To those of you from further afield, it
is our privelage to introduce to you, Chris Coppen. Completely silly and comedic in nature, his tactic is to ask his friends
to think of a title for his poems, and then go from there. The results speak for themselves, woth our favourites including
"Le French Poem" and "Two bullets and they're both for Sooty", come and see why we're so fond of him.
Jessie Durrant (VR Bristol)
Skater girl. Cool human. Passionate. Lyricist extradordinaire. These are just a few of the things that describe Jessie
Durrant. A firm festival favourite, featuring at the likes of BoomTown and Secret Garden Party to name but two, Jessie
joined us as our debut headliner in Bournemouth all those moons ago, we're chuffed to bits she can join us for this wider
venture! A natural performer, the way she commands a stage is hypnotising, with a depth to her words to match, an act
that's not to be missed.
Shaun Gary Palmer (VR Bournemouth)
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the man, the legend, SGP. Armed with a guitar and an extensive vocabulary,
Shaun is an exceptional mammal and phenomenal artist, with reflective lyrics that allow you to look into his soul using
your ears. A natural artist, making the transition between singing & spoken word look effortless, Shaun represents
everything we stand for, and we're honoured he is doing his festival warm up tour with us.
Joseph Selby (VR Bournemouth)
Selby is back once again! We love having this chap touch our microphone, his life ethos, his way with words, and the
way he carries himself, are all inspiring qualities he possesses. Selby won the first slam we held in Bournemouth, and
also set the standard required to win a Verbal Remedies slam, he is a lyricist with a wealth of experience in various
musical disciplines, with current ventures ranging from being in Latin Ska party band Pachango
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnAWb81o8c8&sns;=em) in the midst of releasing a solo EP called "Tales on the
South West Wind", in which he has collaborated with some of Bournemouths most prolific musicians, and being one of
Bournemouths most renound spoken word artists, with firmly established roles in both Freeway Poets & Verbal Remedies,
he is a natural entertainer. He is also the main collaborater in Verbal Remedies Juniors, which is a set of workshops
taken to secondary schools to try & help pupils develop on their lyrical abilities. Check him out on UseLube by following

Angela Louise Chicken (Archimedes Screw Slam Winner, Southampton)
Angela Recently supported Shane Koyczan at Apples and Snakes’ 451 night in Southampton last month. She recently
collaborated with poets, musicians and artists to put together the city’s first International Woman Scream Event – a
chance to celebrate the artistic work of women and campaign against violence, while encouraging more women to
step into the spotlight. She started writing poetry while the anaesthetic was wearing off from an operation. It was a bit
of a shock. She is interested in people and the things they say, but has been known to delve into other poetry staples
like trees and stars and such.
