Film making opportunity for Young People in the South West
Film making opportunity for Young People in the South West
Calling the Shots, Bristol, are working with Arts Council England in partnership with Channel 4 to run the Random Acts project; a lottery-funded initiative that aims to widen participation in filmmaking by reaching out to young creatives.
As part of the Random Acts project, they are seeking creative people aged 16-24 from across the South West to submit their ideas for short films to Calling the Shots. These pitches can be inspired by anything – from spoken word or documentary through to visual arts – and the brief is to make a film as art rather than about art; they need to be bold and creative. Prior filmmaking experience is not a requirement of entry – we are just looking for brilliant ideas and people with the enthusiasm to put those ideas into production.
Film pitches will be shortlisted and then put to a selection panel at the end of September 2015 (the project will be continuing for three years though, so there are plenty of opportunities to apply). Successful filmmakers will then be paired with an industry professional, invited to attend a practical residential weekend and given a budget to put their short film into production. Completed films then have the potential to appear on the Random Acts website and beyond that, possibly even Channel 4 broadcast.
