 Poetry Can South West Poetry Awards 2013 - Nominations

Poetry Can is pleased to announce the shortlists for the first Poetry Can South West

Poetry Awards.

Nominations for the period April 2012- April 2013 have been received in the categories

 below and a shortlist for each category has been drawn up. Each catagory winner will 

receive a beautiful piece of Bristol Blue Glass engraved with their name and the category

 they have won. Awards will be presented at events during Bristol Poetry Festival 2013

(23rd Sept to 6th Oct 2013)


Special Recognition Award will also be presented at the festival.


The Poetry Publication Award


 For the magazine and books it published during the year.


 For Acumen Literary Journal published three times a year

for her ecopoetry collection: Hedge Fund and Other Living Margins

Burning Eye Books

for publication of collections by performance poets


















Award for Work with Children & Young People

Poetry Slam

for thrillingly engaging children & young people with poetry in schools

Swindon Literature Festival Youth Poetry Slam        

for the development and organisation of the annual youth poetry slam in Swindon

Spiel Unlimited

for introducing children and young people to poetry in numerous settings



The Contribution to Poetry Development Award

Hilda Sheehan

For been a force for good in the poetry firmament around Swindon

Anna Saunders      

For her development and organisation of Cheltenham Poetry Festival

Acoustic Night

For running Bristol's longest running independent Open Mic on alternate Mondays @ Halo Cafe Bar



Individual Poet Award

Alice Oswald

for inspirational readings during the year
